Frequently asked questions

Everything a songwriter might want to know about Song Stash, from capturing a first idea to sharing the finished work.

Getting started

What is Song Stash?

Song Stash is a songwriting app for storing and sharing lyrics, demos, and MP3s in one place. It replaces the scattered voice memos, note apps, text threads, and Drive folders that songs usually end up in, so your whole catalog is organized, playable, and shareable.

Who is Song Stash for?

Songwriters and music creators, from hobbyists to full-time writers and publishers. If you write songs alone, co-write with a team, or pitch songs to publishers and A&R, Song Stash is built to keep your work in one place.

Do I need an account to listen to a song someone shared with me?

No. When someone shares a song or playlist with you, you can listen instantly. You do not need to log in or create an account. Only the songwriter who owns the catalog needs an account.

What devices does Song Stash work on?

Song Stash works on iPhone, Android, and the web, so your songs are always with you. It is mobile-first, so capturing an idea on your phone is as easy as jotting it in Notes, but everything stays organized.

Capturing your songs

How do I capture a song idea before I forget it?

Open Song Stash and either hum a melody into the built-in voice recorder or type a lyric into the lyric box. Add it to your stash in seconds. The goal is to get the idea down before it slips away, then flesh it out later.

Can I record audio right inside the app?

Yes. Song Stash has a built-in voice recorder, so you can record melodies, hooks, and full takes without leaving the app, then play them back right beside your lyrics.

Can I upload files I already have, like MP3s, PDFs, or photos?

Yes. You can attach audio files, PDFs, and photos to any song. That covers demos, sheet music, cover art, and more, all kept with the song they belong to. You can also pull MP3s and PDFs straight from Google Drive, and export everything anytime.

Can it turn my recordings into lyrics or text?

Yes. Song Stash includes audio transcription, so a recording can be turned into written text to work from. It is a starting point for your lyrics, not a finished draft.

How do I find a song once I have a lot of them?

Use instant search. You can find any song by title, writer, lyric, or the playlist it lives in, in milliseconds, so even a big catalog stays searchable.

Organizing your catalog

What are playlists for?

Playlists let you group songs into sets, albums, or pitches and reorder them however you like. Use them to keep an album together, build a set list, or pull together a batch of songs to send to one person.

Is there a limit to how many songs I can store?

No. Song Stash includes unlimited songs, lyrics, and notes, so your entire body of work can live in one place.

How do I keep track of co-writers and splits?

Every song has a Writers section where you credit each co-writer, and a Publishers section for publishers. That way the splits and credits are stored with the song and are never a guessing game later.

Sharing your songs

How do I share a song with a co-writer, publisher, or A&R?

Send them the song's audio file and lyric sheet directly from Song Stash. You can share individual audio files, PDFs, and lyric sheets, or a whole playlist. They can listen right away, no login required.

Can I share a whole playlist at once?

Yes. You can share a playlist as a single link, which is handy for sending a pitch or a set of songs to one person. The recipient can stream it without an account.

Who can see my songs? Are they private?

Your songs are private to you until you choose to share them. Nothing is public by default. You decide exactly which songs or playlists to share and with whom.

Pricing and the free trial
